We found several Bullfish in the River Rea this week in Stirchley (Ten Acres Park) a brilliant sign that the river health is improving after the extensive work done by the Environment Agency to naturalise the flow again.

Alan has a look at Daldinia Concentrica - a UK native mushroom found on dying or dead ash which can hold an ember. His ember lasted a total of 1 hour in the open.

A peaceful day in the woods making a bowl from a log using fire embers and a blow pipe (and a bit of water of course). This technique will ensure you have a bowl capable of holding water and importantly - allow you to make it safer to drink by boiling the water. This is an important skill to have for when you just don't have a pan with you for whatever reason!

Join Alan as he has a practice on the bow drill to make fire in the garden. You don't need a stylish open countryside or private woodland to practice these skills - a cheap firebowl and a bit of garden or yard is all you need to get going with urban bushcraft skills.
