The wine requires acidifying for the yeast so it tends to become a very citrus flavoured wine. For this reason we called this batch the Citrus Bang. We aren&#8217;t usually very fond of overly citrus flavours so we may change or ignore this recipe next year or use it as &#8220;Filler&#8221; wine only (wine we make only when we have made everything else available and have spare drums\/demijohns).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10464052_10152502531071774_8997150299641520594_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-436\" alt=\"Dandelion Flower Wine\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10464052_10152502531071774_8997150299641520594_n.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10457513_10152502530991774_7626878691049059478_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-437\" alt=\"Dandelion Flower Wine\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10457513_10152502530991774_7626878691049059478_n.jpg\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Minimum Equipment Requirement<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Gal Demijohn or Drum\/Tub<\/li>\n<li>1 Airlock<\/li>\n<li>1 Siphon Tube<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ingredients for 1 Gallon Dandelion Wine<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1.136 Litres of pressed dandelion petals (follow the instructions for how to prepare the petals in our post on <a href=\"http:\/\/sustainablelife.spiderstudio.co.uk\/dandelion-and-ginger-cordial\/\">dandelion cordial<\/a> if you are unsure)<\/li>\n<li>340g Raisins<\/li>\n<li>907g Sugar<\/li>\n<li>3 Lemons<\/li>\n<li>3 Oranges<\/li>\n<li>Water as required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Method<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sterilise your equipment<\/li>\n<li>Boil the Petals<\/li>\n<li>Allow petals to steep for a minimum of 2 hours (we did overnight to increase flavour)<\/li>\n<li>Strain the flowers &#8211; keep the liquid but not the flowers themselves<\/li>\n<li>Add raisins, Lemon Juice, Orange Juice, sugar and orange\/lemon zest to the liquid and place on a low boil for 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Allow to cool.<\/li>\n<li>Mix thoroughly and add to the Primary Fermentation Bucket\/Demijohn and top up with water.<\/li>\n<li>Allow the mixture to cool until it reaches around 21C<\/li>\n<li>Add yeast and yeast nutrient<\/li>\n<li>Cover and place airlock<\/li>\n<li>Keep in a warm dry place<\/li>\n<li>After 8 weeks, test the mixture with a hydrometer. Add sugar according to taste if it\u2019s ready to bottle.<\/li>\n<li>Add a crushed Campden tablet to clear according to the tablet instructions and allow to settle<\/li>\n<li>Rack Off up to three times, or less if you don&#8217;t mind it cloudy.
